The intrepid Miss Hannah Pym discovers two opportunities to play matchmaker while on a coach trip to Dover.
A former employer's bequest of £5,000 has allowed spinster Hannah Pym to resign from housekeeping and enjoy traveling the English countryside by coach. But adventure soon finds Miss Pym in the form of runaway brides, spirited heiresses, and international refugees, who continue to test her expert matchmaking skills.
Destined for Dover, Miss Pym scents the potential for a match between fellow travelers in the coach when she meets Abigail Conningham, traveling with her mother to a loveless marriage arranged by an uncle, and Captain Beltravers, an army officer still mourning his dead wife and child.
That's just the beginning. Next, Miss Pym has her matchmaking work cut out for her when she encounters the pretty but hoydenish Lady Deborah Western. Encouraged by an unruly twin brother, the spirited, golden-haired Deborah seems set on dressing and acting the tomboy, much to the dismay of her handsome neighbor, the Earl of Ashton.
To Deb, the earl is a dull stick, always lecturing on the behavior of a proper lady. But her desire to fish, hunt, and ride is quickly replaced with more romantic notions when the tall, green-eyed earl challenges her to a horse race and wins himself an unforgettable kiss. Miss Pym is certain the stunned girl is quite ready for more feminine pursuits. And with the help of Pym's clever maneuverings, Lady Deborah will soon be well and truly matched.

I save MC Beaton and use it as the fancy restaurants do sherbet; it cleanses my reading pallet for starting a heavy duty novel or history. She is delightful, doesn't tax my tired brain and prepares me for another "heavy" book. Beaton is wonderful, she is light, funny and always teaches me a new word or two! Therefore I know that the the mispelled word in the beginning, and the other mistake was not hers, but more than likely the fault of whoever took the book apart and prepared it for Kindle....I just cannot accept my favorite author would make 2 mistakes and her editors not catch it!That being said this book is great fun, new words, wonderful twists and turns, I never know where Ms. Beaton is going to take us, but she always deliver a grand ending, and they always live happily ever after for eternity., since as we know, books live on longer than we do, and isn't that the best part of reading? entering different countries, different centureieas, and learning as much as we can?

Deborah Goes to Dover A Novel of Regency England Traveling Matchmaker Series Book 5 M C Beaton 9781504708432 Books Reviews
This was part of a series and I was anxious to find out what happened next. The characters are finely drawn and the historical setting is excellently portrayed so I could picture it. It is witty and has a dry humor to it that is refreshing and entertaining. Love this author!
I love to read this series on my plane trips. They make me smile and the time goes so fast. Very enjoyable.
You just can't beat M.C. Beaton for a light read. As usual, you can read all through this book in one sitting if you wish to do so. Her stories offer very few real surprises, but she writes so engagingly that you truly don't care.
Deborah Goes to Dover is a fun read. It showcases Benjamin, Miss Pym's footman, in his most endearing and humorous behavior. I really love his character.
All of these books are a bit silly and fun to read when you want a little escape. Some of the characters are funny and of course, there is romance, disappointment and true love. Formulaic but habit forming.
Another enjoyable entry to the travelling matchmaker series! My only con about this series is that they are short reads, even for MC Beaton (AKA Marion Chesney- among other names). That said, I truly enjoy Miss Pym.
Yes, two more couples are to be married thanks to Miss Pym's matchmaking skills. Her dangerous pursuers have been handled. Miss Pym's footman has turned into a real personality. No one is trying to murder her and she is free to start her next journey to York on the Flying Machine. Too bad London is agog with the gossip about Miss Pym and she is not aware. So sad there is only one more book left!
